This small but challenging project consisted of the addition of a new Chiller to increase resilience and to fulfil the clients load requirement both at present time and in the future, including all associated works at a unique infrastructure located minutes away from Central London.

The system comprised of an existing single 700kW Chiller with a minimum turn-down of 20% (140kW) and necessitated the addition of a smaller load low chiller to satisfy the load requirements. The chillers shared an existing condenser water pump which operated in duty standby setup. The condense pumps circulated the chiller condenser water over the existing dry air coolers and hence a three-port by pass control valve was necessary to maintain a flow path on chiller start-up in order to maintain a minimum condense entering temperature to the chillers of 20 degrees Celsius. Moreover, to top this project, a new set of duty standby primary CHW pumps was added to serve the new low load chiller. This was a highly technical project with a tight programme. It required one carefully structured shutdown in order to ensure that the day to day operation of the occupying business was maintained.
